Founded in 1891 and based on the Mendips, the Quarry extracts basalt, supplying a range of premium construction materials, including aggregates and asphalt. We also provide a range of surfacing and engineering services.

Due to a requirement for additional resource, we are looking to recruit a Trainee Technician to join the team in the Laboratory.

Your primary responsibilities will include safely obtaining Aggregate and Asphalt samples, preparing them for testing purposes, and the testing of these samples along with the recording and reporting on test results.

You will be a hardworking and reliable individual with a keen interest in the quarrying industry. With basic computer literacy and an ability to work with numbers, you will be comfortable working with weights and measures, recording results and reporting on findings.

You will be a good team player with an ability to liaise and work with colleagues in your own department and other areas of the business.

You will gain hands-on experience through on the job training as well as completing the NVQ Level 2 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities.

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for health, safety and environmental requirements across the business.

With safety as our first priority, and a history of success in this sphere, yours is a business-critical role. We are looking for a proven and experienced manager with excellent communication skills.

You’ll need the energy to provide inspirational leadership and make a positive contribution to protecting our people from harm, developing policies and instilling a culture of safety throughout our organisation. And you’ll need to be committed to improving our environmental performance, as we seek to enhance the green credentials of our industry.

Experienced in managing internal and external audits, you’ll contribute to the business fulfilling its responsibilities to BSEN18001 and BSEN14001, so familiarity with these standards is essential.

With a broad knowledge of safety, health and environmental legislation, you’ll be well-qualified, industrious, inventive and highly organised. An understanding of quarrying, manufacturing, construction, engineering or similar is desirable.

Salary: Competitive + Benefits               Hours: 48 hours per week


We are looking for highly skilled surfacing operatives to work on site at various locations. The successful candidates will operate plant & equipment to lay material and complete jobs in accordance with the plan/programme for the site.

Working as part of a small team, it is essential that you are a good communicator, able to listen to instructions and carry them out effectively.  You must be Health & Safety aware and fully understand the need to comply with H&S requirements.

You will have a can-do attitude and take pride in your work with a desire to get the job done to specification and on time.

The ideal candidate will hold all relevant plant qualifications including Paver, Roller and Streetmaster.

A CSCS card is essential and NVQ Level 2 is desirable.
