We invest time and resources in improving the employability of young people in the region – helping them develop skills, interests and knowledge that will last a lifetime.
Education
EMPLOYABILITY INITIATIVES
At the core of our activities is the work we do with local schools, colleges and universities to raise awareness of the wealth of opportunities available in the quarrying industry. We train members of our team as STEM Ambassadors to work with young people and share their enthusiasm for their jobs, representing the diversity of roles available in a business like Wainwright.
SESC
THE SOMERSET EARTH SCIENCE CENTRE
We’re proud supporters of the Somerset Earth Science Centre – an industry-backed education and outreach centre that is located at our Moons Hill Headquarters.
The Somerset Earth Science Centre provides education workshops for local school pupils and college students. It plays a part in quarry industry employability activities. And it offers sustainability support for the quarry operators in the Mendips.
Wainwright’s staff have particular responsibility for managing the Somerset Earth Science Centre, with several members of our team seconded to help develop its strategy and oversee operations. Our Chief Executive, Peter Barkwill, is Chair of Trustees.
