George Beer, Asphalt Plant Manager

I came to Wainwright in 2012, for a summer job in the lab. This turned into a full-time appointment when I finished school, and I then moved around the business. I worked as a Plant Operator in the quarry for a time, then completed an apprenticeship as a Quarry Operative.

I moved into the asphalt business and loved it, working towards my Foundation Degree in Mineral Extraction Management and Technology at the same time.

In 2019, I was proud to be made Assistant Manager of our Moons Hill Asphalt plant. I was then promoted to Asphalt Plant Manager two years later, and I love the responsibility that comes with the role.

In 2021, I won the Young Leader Award in the Mineral Products Association (MPA) and British Precast Health and Safety Awards. This reflects just how much I’ve grown with Wainwright: although it’s my name on the trophy, it’s the whole team’s achievement.

My dad, James, is a longstanding employee of Wainwright. I’m proud to have followed in his footsteps. He’s taught me a huge amount and I love that we both take pride in working for the same company. I owe him a great deal.
